Scientific Topics Met Everyday Life at Our University's Science Café Event
The “Science Café” events, conducted by the Council of Higher Education under the coordination of Science Communication Offices, continue to be held at our university with the aim of bringing knowledge to the public. In this context, a Science Café event was organized by our University’s Science Communication Coordination Office, addressing the topics of “Occupational Health and Safety / Food Safety” and “Raising Public Awareness Regarding Subliminal Advertising.”
Students and citizens participated in large numbers in the program held at the Hakkari Municipality Public Market – Nübar Breakfast House Eva Concept.
Delivering the opening speech, Dr. Hazal Yüksekkaya, Coordinator of our University’s Science Communication Office, noted that "Science Café" events are a significant science communication initiative conducted at universities under the coordination of the Council of Higher Education. Emphasizing our university's active contribution to this process, Yüksekkaya stated that they continue to organize these events to ensure scientific knowledge reaches both students and the general public.
During the presentation segment of the event, Lecturer Abdulhalik Gör from our University’s Çölemerik Vocational School provided comprehensive information to participants on the topic of "Raising Public Awareness Regarding Subliminal Advertising." Gör highlighted the areas where subliminal messages can exert influence in daily life without being noticed and stressed the importance of conscious media consumption.
Subsequently, Lecturer Berfin Elmas gave a talk titled "Occupational Health and Safety / Food Safety," detailing the importance of safety rules in work environments and the key points to consider during food preparation and storage. Elmas drew attention to the risks consumers might face and emphasized the importance of conscious consumption behavior for public health.
In the Q&A session, participants had the opportunity to ask questions about topics of interest and gain insights from our academics.
The program concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation.
